Creating a GENUINE Interest in Peers

As public school autism program teachers, we often ask:  Why is it that many of our students show little or no interest in peers?

Recognizing the value of others is the first and most important step to social interaction. Many of our students have not YET learned or experienced that interacting with other children can be fun or reinforcing.  Watch how Teresa begins to change that by setting up plenty of opportunities for Alessandro to receive his favorite items from peers FOR FREE….no asking or eye contact required!

Since this is the most important step and should not be overlooked or rushed, Teresa will provide these types of opportunities throughout the day.

Pair peers with positive reinforcement in your classroom and begin to create genuine interest in peers!
